Welcome From The Head

Welcome to Downham Market Academy which is part of the Cambridgeshire Educational Trust. We aim to ensure that every student in our care realises their potential and we take that responsibility very seriously.

Our school ethos is the foundation for all of our work. The ethos is shared across the trust schools and it focuses on mutual respect and creating an environment where everyone can flourish.

We believe that it is important to concentrate on what happens in the classroom and our school planning ensures that students receive good lesson experiences. It is our ambition for Downham Market Academy children to make the same levels of progress of children in the other trust school.

We know that we are educating and caring for the whole child, so we have a strong vertical tutoring and house system in place which focuses on mentoring students so that they are happy and fulfilled.

Downham Market Academy is a place where everyone is supported to succeed and it is a delightful place to learn and to work. We extend an open invitation for you to visit us and see the school in its daily routine.

Equality Statement

Downham Market Academy is committed to realising the potential of each student within a welcoming, supportive environment where we treat others as we would like to be treated – with dignity, care and respect. As part of this College Ethos we welcome our general duty under the Equality Act 2010 to comply with the Public Sector Equality Duty to have due regard to the need to eliminate unlawful discrimination, to advance equality of opportunity and to foster good relations within the whole College community.

Downham Market Academy is committed to promoting an inclusive culture that respects diversity and difference across our College and local community.  Equality legislation protects people from discrimination on the basis of nine strands of human diversity, known in legal terms as protected characteristics. These are age, disability, gender, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief and sexual orientation. Every member of the College community has more than one of these protected characteristics and so the law protects everyone against unfair treatment.

At Downham Market Academy we also welcome our duty under the Education and Inspections Act 2006 to promote community cohesion.

To see how Downham Market Academy meets its specific duties to publish annually-updated Equality Information about our students, explain how we have due regard for equality in our policies and practice and set and evaluate Equality Objectives to reduce or remove particular inequalities, please follow these links

Equality Objectives Policy 2016

The Academy recognises that in seeking to enable each member of the Academy community to realise his or her full potential and to ensure fair treatment for all, what is important is how we use equality data, how policies and procedures are written, implemented, monitored, and evaluated and how our aims and ethos are fulfilled through our practices. We seek to move beyond compliance to best practice.
