Equality Information: Data, Policies, Procedures and Practices

Downham Market Academy welcomes its obligation under the Equality Regulations to publish annually-updated accessible Equality Information. This information is intended to show the academy’s awareness of and commitment to the need to have due regard to eliminating unlawful discrimination, advancing equality of opportunity and fostering good relations in all its activities.

Equality data about students will be assessed across our core provision as a school, including admissions, attendance, attainment, exclusions and prejudice-related incidents. In addition, we seek to ensure that equality, diversity and inclusion principles apply to the full range of our policies, procedures and practices, including those that are concerned with staff recruitment, retention and professional development; students’ personal development, welfare and well- being; teaching and learning styles and strategies; behaviour, appraisal and discipline; care, guidance and support; working in partnership with parents and carers and working with the wider community.

As an inclusive school, we are also mindful that there are further groups within the academy community who may need additional support in order to realise their potential and to ensure equality of opportunity. These will include, among others, students who are eligible for free school meals (FSM), students with English as an additional language (EAL), students who are young carers, students who are looked after children, students with high learning potential (SEN Gifted and Talented), students from families under temporary or permanent stress and students with physical or mental health issues.
