Downham Market Academy is committed to realising the potential of each student within a welcoming, supportive environment where we treat others as we would like to be treated with dignity, care and respect. As part of our ethos we welcome our general duty under the Equality Act 2010 to comply with the Public Sector Equality Duty to have due regard to the need to eliminate unlawful discrimination, to advance equality of opportunity and to foster good relations within the whole school community.
Downham Market Academy is committed to promoting an inclusive culture that respects diversity and difference across our school and the local community. Equality legislation protects people from discrimination on the basis of nine strands of human diversity, known in legal terms as protected characteristics. These are age, disability, gender, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief and sexual orientation. Every member of the school community has more than one of these protected characteristics and so the law protects everyone against unfair treatment.
At Downham Market Academy we also welcome our duty under the Education and Inspections Act 2006 to promote community cohesion.
