- 14th November Year 9 Drama Trip
- 14th November GCSE Awards Evening
This week, William Pik (year 13), Keelan Adams (year 12), Illya Hanslip and Maciej Ciesielski (both year 11) took part in the Senior Maths Challenge. Despite this being our first entry and being one of few teams that entered year 11s instead of teams made up purely of sixth form students, they performed extremely well and finished in 13th place. Well done to all involved!
A polite reminder that students in Year 7 to 10 are not allowed to wear hoodies around the
Academy. As the colder weather sets in, students may want to wear a coat over their blazer or the Academy jumper (from Stratfords) under their blazer. Year 11 are only permitted to wear the DMA hoodies and not other brands.
Lockdown Procedure Practice
Within the next few weeks we will be practising our lockdown procedure at the academy. This is our response to an emergency situation where we need to keep students safe within the academy.
Anti Bullying Week
11th to the 15th November is Anti Bullying week. During this week, the peer-mentoring group will be launched. This group of students will be on hand at lunch times for students to drop in. They will offer a space to come and talk and support students and will be able to sign post students for extra support if needed.
As an academy, during form time we will be focusing on not being passive bystanders, we are encouraging students to report when and where they see bullying either to a member of staff, a peer mentor or via an anonymous form, they can post in the Academy library.
We are also encouraging all students to wear odd socks during this week to celebrate that we are all unique; it would be great to see many students wearing odd socks around the academy.
There is currently a vacancy for a parent governor on the academys local governing body. This role would involve attending half termly meetings at the academy and forming links to the schools departments. If you are interested in applying to for this role please contact Natasha Gill-Price; Clerk to the Governors via email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Children in Need
The Academy will be supporting Children in Need again this year with a non-uniform day on Friday 15 November. The minimum suggested donation is 1 and all of this money will go to the Children in Need appeal. Students will be reminded in assemblies next week that only appropriate clothing should be worn.
Safer Schools Partnership
Students in Year 11 have been given the opportunity to take part in an exciting morning at the Police Headquarters in Wymondham in the new year. Our Safer Schools Officer, PC Chandler, has pulled some strings and been granted special access to up-close experiences with the weapons that police officers use and the armed vehicle response team. Any student can apply to take part by submitting a 200 word letter to PC Chandler (via Mr Eastwood) outlining why they want to attend. This is particularly suitable for students who are thinking of joining the police force but is also open to any student who has an interest in this area. There is no cost for students to attend and only criteria is that they must have at least 95% attendance for this half term, no involvement with the police outside of school and their behaviour in school is better than last half term.
