- 15th-17th July Year 6 Induction Day
- 19th July Rewards Trip
Duke of Edinburgh Award
A bumper DofE week ended with a successful Bronze expedition weekend. The pupils showed excellent camp craft and strong navigation skills to succeed in passing the expedition section of their Bronze expedition – many congratulations. They also worked with a smile and were a credit to themselves, families and the academy!
It is really important that pupils are now supported and encouraged to log their
skills/physical/volunteering activities on D of E – they all know how to use the website and need to complete this before the end of term (unless they have spoken with Mr Hewett). The pupils have worked really hard and we would love to be able to reward their endeavour with completion of their Bronze or Silver award. Any concerns or issues please email email@example.com.
Year 6 Transition
On Monday to Wednesday next week we will welcome our new Year 7 students for three days of transition activities – Miss Chapman has organised a jam-packed programme of lessons and activities as a taster of what it is like to learn at DMA.
Year 8 Poetry
Thursdays Protest Poetry performance showcased a range of sophisticated, well-crafted and innovative poems with strong personal messages. The whole Year 8 group worked tirelessly for the past 5 weeks to ensure their poems were not only poetically and structurally challenging, but also engaging for their audience. They truly represent the next generation of budding wordsmiths.
For the next academic year we will be staggering the start for year groups. Years 7, 11 and 12 will start on Wednesday 4th September. All students will then be in school on Thursday 5th September.
Brave the Shave!
On 23rd July Katharine Russell who teaches Latin at DMA will be shaving her hair off to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. She will be donating her hair to The Little Princess Trust to help make wigs for children with leukaemia. Fundraising is already off to a great start so if you would also like to donate to this bald choice, please go to the Macmillan Brave the Shave website and then search for Katharine Russell or use the link below. Donate Here!
Changes to the School Day
A reminder that the school day timings will change from September. The day timings will be as follows.
We have been liaising closely with Norfolk County Council and bus times for school buses will be adjusted accordingly. For individual route queries please visit the Norfolk County Council website which will be updated in due course.
Year 9 Battlefields Trip
Year 9 students visited Belgium and France this week with the history department, taking part in our popular, annual, Battlefields Trip. Students had the opportunity to visit numerous memorial sites such as Thiepval, Tyne Cot Cemetery and the Passchendaele Museum, and were also granted the honour of laying a Wreath at the Last Post ceremony on Wednesday. The trip proved an invaluable experience to many, raising cultural capital, allowing students to learn beyond the classroom and develop a new found understanding of the First World War.
Year 11 2020 Leavers Hoodies
The hoodie online shop is still open and will be until 1st August. Please ensure you order any hoodies you would like for next year before this date. They will be delivered to school in August and sorted in form groups to be distributed to students upon their return in September.
