Important Dates

Blue Skies

Two different groups of students across Year 8 and Year 9 have been participating in a number of different activities based in and around RAF Marham organised by the charity JET. They have looked at many aspects of the base but more importantly have been developing many skills and overcoming some fears! Team work and communication have been two skills that they have been using through different activities like escape and evasion, high ropes course, and water survival in the swimming pool. The pupils have also developed confidence in a variety of different settings and challenges. In two weeks pupils will be graduating from their course, where parents and pupils will celebrate the achievements they have made.

Year 6 Evening

On Thursday evening members of SLT met with parents of year 6 pupils to discuss the transition from Primary to Secondary school. These meetings were extremely useful and we really enjoyed getting to know the students. If you were not able to make these meetings then please do contact us to arrange.

Year 5 Taster Day

Our Year 5 taster day is next Friday and we are really looking forward to meeting the year 5 students for a day of Harry Potter themed excitement. We will be teaching the students potions, defence against the dark arts, divination, charms and care of magical creatures. Look out for photos in the local papers!

Year 10 Day

After an exciting assembly earlier this week in which Year 10 students gained an insight into the VI form at DMA, we asked them to sign up for different taster lessons and enrichment slots. On July 1st they will have the opportunity to try football, rounders, meditation, tai chi, book club, cooking and more, along with a series of VI style lessons in traditional academic studies.

Homework Booklets Summer B

Homework booklets for each year group have been collated and uploaded onto the school website. They outline week-by-week what will be set in each of the students’ subjects. In order to support students who may have difficulty in completing homework at home, there is help available at the homework club which runs Monday to Thursday after school in the inclusion room.

September 2019

For the next academic year we will be staggering the start for year groups. Years 7, 11 and 12 will start on Wednesday 4th September. All students will then be in school on Thursday 5th September.

FODMA Raffle Prize Donations

At the parent BBQ on Friday 5th July, Friends of Downham Market Academy will be running a raffle. We would very much appreciate any donations for raffle prizes anyone is able to offer in support of this event. Please can we ask for any raffle prize donations to be dropped off at reception in advance of 5th July. If you are unable to drop items off please do get in touch for any items you would like collecting.

Year 10 Tutor Groups

From the start of next week all Year 10 students will move from their current forms into new subject based tutor groups. Most students have also been invited to attend Period 7 sessions 3:15-4:00pm. It is really important that everyone makes the most of these opportunities in readiness for Year 11.
