Absence from the Academy
If a student is unwell and cannot attend, the absence must be explained by the student’s parent or carer. All absences must be reported before 9am on the day of the absence with the following information:
- Name of student
- Student’s form
- Reason for absence
- Expected date of return if known.
We have separate answerphone numbers and email addresses to report any absence, depending on the student’s year group as follows:
Years 7 to 11: 01366 389175 or email email@example.com
Sixth Form: 01366 389000 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Whilst absences due to routine appointments during the Academy day are discouraged, we appreciate that some medical appointments are unavoidable. If your child is going to arrive late or leave early due to a medical appointment, please notify us in advance with a copy of the appointment letter or card. For local appointments, it is expected that students will not require a full day of absence from the Academy and this will not be authorised.
Where attendance is under 90%, absences from the Academy should be supported by medical evidence. This must be in the form of a written letter from a doctor explaining the reason for absence and a likely timescale for recovery. Copies of appointment cards or prescriptions are not acceptable forms of medical evidence.
We strongly discourage taking students out of the Academy during term time but appreciate that under some circumstances this is unavoidable. For any non-medical, planned absences, please complete our online absence for by clicking below.
Alternatively you can download the paper form below and return to the Academy Office.
